KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's soccer team played the United States Merchant Marine Academy to a 1-1 draw in their first match of Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Mariners fired five shots compared to the Bears' three but could not find the back of the net, resulting in a scoreless first half.
In the 56th minute, midfielder Pablo Mejia (Elmhurst, N.Y./Academy of Finance and Enterprise) – in a two-on-one battle – beat out a pair of defenders and rifled a shot from 25 yards out that found the right of the goal; putting the Bears in the drivers seat.
St. Joseph's weathered USMMA's chances all second half but the Mariners' Patrick Novotny drew the match level with just under four minutes remaining, slotting home a loose ball inside the box.
For the Bears

Mejia was one of five Bears to register shots while he and Bryan Garcia (Flushing, N.Y./Thomas Edison CTE) saw shots on target.
