Garcia's Brace of Assists Secures Men's Soccer's First Skyline Win Against Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's soccer team defeated Yeshiva University, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon from Aviator Field. The win was the first for the Bears in Skyline Conference play, improving to 1-0-1.

How It Happened

The Bears came out strong to start the first half. Francisco Garcia's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) long ball into the box found Matthew Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), who headed the ball in the back of the net. The goal was enough for St. Joseph's to hold the halftime edge, 1-0.

The navy and gray struck again in the 64th minute with Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) tapping in a short Garcia pass. Yeshiva was able to slip through the SJBK defense in the 81st minute but the Bears held on to finish the game with a 2-1 win.

For the Bears

  • Kieblesz scored his sixth goal of the season while Naci netted his fourth.
  • Garcia dished his first two assists of the campaign.
  • Naci had seven total shots with four on target.
  • Christian Chimborazo (Elmhurst, N.Y./Queens Technical) registered three shots.
  • Kieblesz was one of four Bears with two shots.
  • Alex Castro (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) finished with five saves.
