BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's soccer team and Baruch College played out a 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon from Aviator Field.
How it Happened
Within the first 16 minutes of the match,
Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) found
Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) just outside the box; who fired off the opening goal. Naci got in on the goal-scoring act with his first of the campaign in the 38th minute to see the Bears hold a 2-0 lead at the interval.
Scoring from a direct corner kick in the 50th minute, sophomore
Bryan Lucero (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunication Arts & Technology) further increased the Bears' advantage to 3-0. However, the Bearcats were the beneficiaries of a penalty shortly after the hour mark, reducing the SJBK lead back down to two. Within a span of six minutes – between 71' and 78' – Baruch found the back of the net twice more, including off a second penalty kick, to equalize the contest at three all.
Ultimately, the match ended in the draw as both teams were unable to end the deadlock in the waning moments.
For the Bears
- The Bears' goal-scoring trio all netted their first goals of the season with Lucero bagging his first collegiate goal.
- Naci had a match-leading six shots.
- Alex Castro (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) totaled three saves.
