Men’s Basketball Forces Overtime Against Yeshiva; Falls in Bonus Session

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Following an 18-point halftime deficit against Yeshiva University on Tuesday night, the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team stormed back, forcing overtime. However, the Bears fell to the Maccabees, 85-92.

How it Happened

The visitors opened the game on a 10-0 run but the Bears countered with a 10-2 spurt of their own. Yeshiva restored their 10-point advantage at 13:32 in the first with the Bears again trimming their gap to as little as one courtesy of a Timothy Richardson (Ozone Park, N.Y.) three-pointer at 8:54, 26-25. However, the momentum swung back in favor of the Maccabees, who held a commanding 52-34 lead at halftime, their largest of the night.

St. Joseph's turned the game around completely, embarking on a 27-6 run over the first 11 minutes of the second half to seize their first lead of the night, 61-58. The remainder of the half saw five lead changes, with neither side leading by more than four. Trailing 81-77, Richardson found the cup with 48 seconds before Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y.) banked a pair of pivotal free throws with 2.1 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime.

The Maccabees came close to drawing first blood in overtime but missed two free throws, which was followed by a three-pointer from Jasaraj. In the end, Zevi Samet scored all 11 of Yeshiva's points in the extra period, sealing a 92-85 victory.

For the Bears

  • Richardson dropped 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor.

  • Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) registed 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

  • Chris WIlliams (Trenton, N.J.) rounded out the SJBK trio in double figures with 11 points to go with four assists and three takeaways.

  • Justin Nazon finished with nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

  • Jasaraj led the game with 12 rebounds, also totaling seven points, three assists, and a steal.

  • Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) collected nine caroms and forced three blocks.
