Sarah Lawrence Pulls Away from Men’s Basketball

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team was unable to top Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon in Bronxville, falling 51-70.

How it Happened

The Gryphons hit an early three-pointer, but the Bears quickly gained the lead thanks to baskets from Noah Gray (Panama City, Fla.) and Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.). At 9-9, Sarah Lawrence reclaimed the lead with another three-pointer, extending their advantage to as much as 10 points, 23-13. Although the lead changed hands again briefly with under five minutes left, thanks to a 14-2 run; going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in the span, the Bears entered halftime trailing 32-29.

The SJBK deficit would again whittle down to one, 41-40, behind seven unanswered points. A 19-0 Sarah Lawrence run followed, separating themselves from St. Joseph's and earning a 70-51 win; maintaining their top spot in the Skyline Conference gold division.

For the Bears

  • The Bears shot an efficient 21-for-25 from the free-throw line, going 80 percent compared to the 60 percent.

  • Mills led the side with 24 points and seven rebounds.

  • Gray and Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had six points with the latter matching Mills' rebounding total. Gray had four boards.

  • Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered six rebounds and five points.

  • Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) logged five rebounds and a pair of blocks.
