BROOKLYN, N.Y. — In their return to The Hill Center following the holiday layover, the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn women's basketball team earned a 63-60 victory over Yeshiva University on Wednesday evening.
How it Happened
The Maccabees started the night with an 8-2 lead but the Bears soon reclaimed the advantage, albeit temporarily. A couple of buckets inside of 90 seconds remaining in the quarter, sandwiched between a Jasmine Chan-Clayton (Melbourne, Australia) triple, gave Yeshiva a 19-16 edge after one.
The YU lead grew to 30-22 with 5:31 remaining in the second before another Chan-Clayton three-ball sparked a rally, and the Bears narrowed the gap to 32-31 by halftime.
Carrying their momentum into the third, the Bears scored the first six points, taking a 37-32 lead. The teams traded leads in the final moments of the quarter, with the Bears finishing on top at 45-43 after a Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) three-pointer with 19 seconds left.
Despite the Maccabees' strong efforts, including a game-tying three-pointer at 54 midway through the fourth, the Bears held on to win 63-60.
