BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's basketball team dropped a 61-66 decision to Pratt Institute on Tuesday night at the Pratt ARC. The deficit was the first against in series history.
The opening half featured six ties and as many lead changes, with neither team able to establish consistent separation. The Cannoneers held a six-point edge midway through the period before the Bears responded with baskets from Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.), Maven Cummings (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and a three-pointer from Blaise Corozzo (Howard Beach, N.Y.). The Bears briefly pulled within one late in the half following a fast-break layup by Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.), but a late second-chance three by Pratt allowed the Cannoneers to take a 34–30 advantage into the break.
Pratt extended the margin to as many as 11 early in the second half, but St. Joseph's closed the gap behind interior scoring from Munson and Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany).. A layup by Idowu tied the game at 38–38 with just under 16 minutes remaining. The Cannoneers answered with a pair of three-pointers and regained control, maintaining a narrow lead through the final stretch. SJBK continued to apply pressure inside, with Munson converting in the final minute to cut the margin to one possession, but the hosts closed the game at the free-throw line in the final seconds to secure the 66–61 result.
Munson led St. Joseph's with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Idowu added 14 points and 10 boards, while Mills finished with 13 points. Austin Wrynn (Port Washington, N.Y.) recorded five rebounds, and Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in three points, four rebounds, and two steals.
St. Joseph's returns home on Tuesday, December 2, hosting Lehman College at 6 p.m. at The Hill Center.
