BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's basketball team was defeated 63-93 by Washington College (Md.) on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center in its final home game of the calendar year.
The Bears opened the game with early baskets from Austin Wrynn (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) to take a brief 4–0 lead in the opening minute. The Shoremen answered with consistent perimeter shooting and transition scoring, building momentum through an 11–2 run midway through the half. The guests connected on eight three-pointers in the opening period, shooting 57 percent from distance, and carried a 39–30 advantage into halftime.
Washington College continued to extend the margin in the second half thanks to interior scoring and second-chance opportunities. The Centennial Conference-outfit pushed the lead to double figures within the first three minutes and maintained control through the middle portion of the half. Blaise Corozzo (Howard Beach, N.Y.) stepped up for St. Joseph's, shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc while Maven Cummings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed with buckets down the stretch. However, the Shoremen's efficiency at the free-throw line and on fast breaks kept the margin intact.
Corozzo's 12 points off the bench led St. Joseph's in scoring. Jonathan Reno (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 11 points and three assists, while Wrynn finished with 10 points. Mills recorded eight points, and Cummings contributed nine points. Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.), Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y.), and Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany) combined for nine rebounds.
The Bears now head into a four-game road stretch beginning on Tuesday, December 9 at Saint Elizabeth University at 7 pm. They return to The Hill Center on Saturday, January 10, when they host St. Joseph's (Long Island).
