PURCHASE N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University N.Y. - Brooklyn women's basketball team fell short at Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon in a 44-65 defeat from Kennedy Gymnasium.Â
How it Happened
The Bears offense struggled in the first half, only making one field goal in the first quarter, trailing by a score of 14-5 at the end of the period. The offensive struggles continued for the Bears in the second as they went to the half shooting just 26% from the field and 14% from three. The Valiants led 28-13 after a low-scoring first half. Rookies Nikki Grech (Northville, Mich.) and Jasmine Chan-Clayton (Melbourne, Australia) led the side with a combined seven points.
A 20-point third quarter for the Valiants gave them a 22-point lead heading to the fourth quarter, 48-26, and further distancing themselves from the Bears. St. Joseph's outscored Manhattanville in the fourth, 18-17, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Valiants, 65-44.Â

- Grech followed up her record-setting performance with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
- Dominika Sanchez (Guayaquil, Ecuador) added seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
- Chan-Clayton also had seven points to go with three assists.
- Gabriella Cinque (Staten Island, N.Y.) had six points.
