Baseball Weathers Lehman’s Scoring Outburst for Season-Opening Win

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn baseball team opened the 2025 season with a 12-10 win over Lehman College on Friday afternoon from the campus of SUNY Maritime College. The result marks the first collegiate win for head coach Rich Pecoraro and his coaching staff.

How it Happened

Juniors Andrew Ardito (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Vincent Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y.) had back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the first inning before senior third baseman Doug Paider (Glendale, N.Y.) also singled in a run later in the frame, giving the Bears an early 3-0 advantage before leading 5-0 after two.

A triple off the bat of Lehman's Elias Fermin in the top of the third kickstarted a massive 10-run inning. St. Joseph's reduced their deficit to two courtesy of a two-RBI single from Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and an RBI base knock by William King (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) in the subsequent at-bat, 10-8. A single from Paider followed by a pair of RBI groundouts saw the lead swing back into the Bears' favor, 11-10. They scored their 12th run on a Joe Provvisiero (Ozone Park, N.Y.) sacrifice fly, confirming the result.

Following Lehman's offensive outburst, sophomore southpaw Kris Vinski (Bridgehampton, N.Y.) tossed 6.1 innings of scoreless relief; earning the first win on the bump in his collegiate career.

For the Bears

  • Paider propelled the Bears with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a pair of RBI and as many runs scored.

  • Camerada and Joe Meglio (Howard Beach, N.Y.) each had a pair of hits to go with an RBI and run scored.

  • Gardener and Ardito each posted two RBI while King, Provvisiero, and Matthew Quinones (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) all had one.

  • King, Provvisiero, and Christopher Stegmuller (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored a pair of runs.

  • Vinski struck out a career-best six while failing to allow a Lehman run.

  • Starter Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J.) had three strikeouts and an earned run in the no-decision.

Up Next

With the postponement of Saturday's doubleheader against Western Connecticut State University, the Bears are back in action next Saturday, March 8 at 12 pm in a doubleheader against Rosemont College.
