Box Score 2 KING OF PRUSSIA, PA. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn baseball team dropped both ends of their first road doubleheader of the season, falling to Rosemont College 6-7 and 3-12 on Saturday afternoon in the Philadelphia suburbs.
In game two, senior second baseman Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y.) became the 16th Bear in program history to reach 100 career hits, thanks to a 2-for-3 game at the plate.
How it Happened (Game 1)
Trailing 1-0 entering the third inning, Doug Paider (Glendale, N.Y.) drove in an RBI single, allowing Andrew Ardito (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to score and tie the game. The Ravens responded with a run in the bottom of the third to reclaim a 2-1 lead.
Following a pair of scoreless innings where both teams saw a combined four baserunners in the span, the Bears erupted for five runs in the sixth. A bases-loaded walk brought in the tying run before a pair of runs scored on Miguel Toribio's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) single, giving St. Joseph's a 4-2 lead. A Rosemont error allowed the Bears' fifth run to score followed by their sixth run on Vincent Camerada's (Staten Island, N.Y.) RBI single.
The Ravens responded in the bottom of the seventh with three doubles, narrowing the deficit to 6-4. Wild pitches later in the inning tied the game at six, and a walk-off walk secured a 7-6 win for Rosemont.
How it Happened (Game 2)
Camerada and Gardener picked up back-to-back hits before Toribio was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ardito's sacrifice fly to center field brought Camerada home, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Bears extended their lead to 2-0 on Justin Haluck's (Plainedge, N.Y.) single, which sent Paider across the plate.
The Ravens answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game, then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth. In the fifth, Gardener scored the Bears' third run on Paider's single. The 3-3 tie was short-lived, however, as Rosemont exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, pulling ahead 11-3.
In the sixth inning, Gardener recorded a two-out base knock, marking his milestone hit. Despite his achievement and the team's best efforts, the Bears couldn't close the gap, as the Ravens added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to confirm their 12-3 victory.
