Men's Basketball Powers Past Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Led by four of the five starters in double figures and double-doubles from Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y.), the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's basketball team defeated Mount Saint Mary College 80-64 on Wednesday evening from the Kaplan Center 

How it Happened

The first half was competitive, featuring eight ties and seven lead changes in the opening 20 minutes. The Knights held a 35-30 lead with 4:19 remaining, their largest of the night. However, an 11-0 spurt – helmed by a combined eight points from Gordon and Jonathan Reno (Staten Island, N.Y.) – saw the Bears hold a 41-35 halftime lead.

A 16-2 run to start the second half, with the Bears shooting 6-of-8 during the stretch, pushed their lead to 57-37. St. Joseph's advantage then grew to 28 at the 5:08 mark, 76-48, before securing a 16-point victory, 80-64.

For the Bears

  • Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) led all scorers with 20 points. He also had three steals and as many rebounds.

  • Gordon had a season-high 16 points on 8-of-13 from the floor. The graduate student also had 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks.

  • Nazon also had a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 points while dishing out eight assists and forcing three steals.

  • Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted a 12-point, seven-rebound effort.

  • Reno chipped in nine points, three assists, and a pair of steals.
