Baseball Falls in Midweek Matchup to New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. —- The St. Joseph's N.Y. - Brooklyn baseball team fell to SUNY New Paltz, 4-14, on Wednesday afternoon. 

How it Happened

The Bears got the ball rolling as Vincent Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled in the game's first at-bat before scoring on a balk. The Hawks tied it in the bottom of the first before pulling ahead with five more runs over the next three innings.

Trailing 9-1 in the eighth, the Bears found their way back on the board. Matthew Quinones (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both scored on Christopher Stegmuller's (Baldwin, N.Y.) two-RBI single as part of a three-run frame, 9-4. New Paltz put up five runs in the bottom of the eighth, ending the game early with a 14-4 victory for the Hawks, as the ninth inning was not contested.

For the Bears

  • Quinones finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

  • Camerada scored half of the team's runs. 

  • Stegmuller finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI.

  • Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J.) was the losing pitcher on the day.

The Bears open Skyline Conference play as they head to Purchase College on Saturday, March 29. First pitch of game one is slated for 11 am.
