BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn softball bounced back from their losses on Sunday with a sweep of Brooklyn College on Wednesday evening. The Bears earned a 13-0 win in game one before taking game two, 8-2.
How it Happened (Game 1)
The Bears took advantage of an early error to get on the board first. Jessica Jakob (Covina, Calif.) and Payton Walker (Eastvale, Calif.) batted in three runs in the second, extending the lead to 4-0.
Following two scoreless innings, the Bears opened the floodgates in the fifth. Jakob hammered a bases-clearing double to left while Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif.) drove in three runs in two separate plate appearances in the frame; resulting in a nine-run inning and 13-0 win at the end of five.
How it Happened (Game 2)
Run production for the Bears carried over into the nightcap. Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) scored on a Walker single before a sacrifice fly and a pair of wild pitches saw the navy-and-gray take a 4-0 lead after one.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the bottom of the second, but the Bears answered with three runs in the third, two of them coming on a two-out double by Audrey Scott (Rocklin, Calif.). Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, La.) shut down Brooklyn College for the remainder of the game, finishing with six strikeouts.
SJBK sealed the 8-2 victory with an RBI single from Olivia Martinez (Tomball, Texas) that drove in Garcia.
For the Bears (Game 1)

Jakob batted 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

Van Der Kamp finished 3-for-4 with three batted in.

Walker also has three RBI and both of her hits were for extra bases.

Scott, Garcia, and Kamryn Walls (Middle Village, N.Y.) each had two hits.Â

Makena Burr (Foster City, Calif.) registered her sixth win and fifth shutout of the year.
For the Bears (Game 2)

Garcia went 4-for-5 in game two with a pair of runs.

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Valarie Scott (Tucson, Ariz.) also had a two-hit game.
