NEWBURGH, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn softball team defeated Mount Saint Mary College, 4-1, on Thursday evening. Originally scheduled for a Saturday doubleheader, the two sides played the first game two days earlier due to anticipated inclement weather. Game two will still take place on Saturday, May 3.
How it Happened
Olivia Martinez (Tomball, Texas) and Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) opened the game with back-to-back singles and came around to score on a two-out base hit by Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, Calif.). Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif.) later crossed the plate to cap a three-run first for the Bears.
St. Joseph's stranded eight Mount Saint Mary runners through the first six innings while Makena Burr (Foster City, Calif.) recorded three strikeouts. The Knights pushed across a run on a wild pitch in the seventh but couldn't rally further, as the Bears secured a 4-1 win.
