BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team took the opening two sets before visiting FDU-Florham rallied to claim a five-set decision, 3–2 (20–25, 23–25, 25–10, 25–16, 17–15), on Thursday evening at The Hill Center
Taylor Knight (San Ramon, Calif.) sparked an 8–0 service run in the opening set that included four aces, giving St. Joseph's an early cushion. The Bears maintained their edge throughout, with kills from Knight and Carissa Zwiefelhofer (North Bend, Wash.) helping close the frame 25–20. In the second, the Bears built a 19–13 lead before the Devils clawed back to tie it at 22–22. A late kill from Knight and an FDU attack error sealed a 25–23 win, giving the Bears a two-set advantage.
The Devils responded in the third, jumping out to a 6–0 start and limiting St. Joseph's to four kills on their way to a 25–10 result. FDU used a mid-set run in the fourth to pull ahead 15–7 and continued to push offensively, taking the set 25–16 to force a decider. In a back-and-forth decisive set, the Bears led 14–13 but could not convert on two match points. The visitors capitalized with three of the final four points, capping the match with an ace, to edge St. Joseph's, 17–15, and secure the comeback win
Zwiefelhofer paced the Bears with 16 kills and 10 total blocks for her second double-double in the last four matches. She also had seven assists. Knight tallied 11 kills, 11 digs, and five service aces, while Keren Crespo (Meriden, Conn.) added eight kills on .238 hitting. Rachel Meltsin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fiinished with 23 assists, six digs, and a pair of aces. Jillian McGinty (Glendale, N.Y.) contributed six kills and six block assists. Mariana Medrano (El Paso, Texas) totaled seven digs while fellow Texan Abigail Encinia (Sunnyvale, Texas) logged six kills.
