Men's Soccer Comes Up Short at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's soccer team resumed Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon; coming up just short against Purchase College, 0-1.

The Panthers struck in the 22nd minute when Aylwyn Ganzhi-Siguencia headed home a corner kick from Yahir Tafoya for the game's only goal. The Purchase defense limited the Bears to one first-half shot; a blocked strike by Matthew Cottone (Oakdale, N.Y.) at the half-hour mark.

The Bears pressed for an equalizer, with Francesco Di Paolo (Jackson Heights, N.Y.), Johan Reyes (Staten Island, N.Y.), Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y.), and Veton Dudus (New York, N.Y.) all testing the Panthers' back line in the second half, but the hosts held on to see out the one-goal scoreline.

Edwin Sacramento (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded five saves. Di Paolo paced the Bears with four shots, while Dudus registered both of his attempts on target.
