Rookies Munson, Idowu Fuel Offense in Men's Basketball's Deficit to Sarah Lawrence

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's basketball team was defeated 91–75 by Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday night at The Hill Center.

The Gryphons opened the night on a 9-0 run and maintained early momentum, hitting multiple three-pointers and finishes in transition to take a lead in the opening minutes. The Bears responded midway through the first half when Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany) connected on consecutive three-pointers, and Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.) scored both off the dribble and from the free-throw line to keep the Bears within striking distance. The Munson-Idowu tandem combined to lift the Bears to a 32-30 lead thanks to a 10-0 run but the Gryphons answered with interior and perimeter scoring to carry 38–34 advantage into halftime.

Sarah Lawrence extended its lead early in the second half, growing to its largest at 61-46 midway through the period. SJBK narrowed the deficit to as little as nine, 71-62 with 4:26 on the clock, behind a 26-point half by Munson. However, the visitors pulled out the 91-75 win; improving to 6-1 in Skyline play.

Munson led the Bears with 36 points, shooting an efficient 13-of-17 from the floor and 9-of-14 the free-throw line. The first year also had nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Idowu added 18 points and eight rebounds. Austin Wrynn (Port Washington, N.Y.) contributed four points and seven rebounds.

The Bears travel to the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, January 24 at noon.
