PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) topped Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon, 89-77, extending their winning streak to three games.
After trading early buckets, the Bears regained the lead on a Colin Mills (White Plains, N.Y.) triple, 7-4, holding on to the advantage throughout the afternoon. The Valiants narrowed the SJBK lead to as little as four, 24-20, with under 10 minutes to play but the Bears pulled away to lead 49-37 at the break.
A strong start by the hosts saw them come within two possessions at various points in the second half, trimming St. Joseph's' lead to as little as five with 12:15 remaining, 62-57. Mills, Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany), and Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.) propelled the Bears' offense to close out the contest, earning the 89-77 triumph and their first win over Manhattanville in program history.
Mills' 30 points are a season-high, shooting 12-of-19 and 5-of-9 from the perimeter in the process. Idowu totaled 20 points and pulled 14 boards while Munson logged 18 points and 11 rebounds. Austin Wrynn (Port Washington, N.Y.) had eight points and six rebounds. Staten Islanders Adam Jasaraj and Justin Nazon each collected five caroms.
The Bears open a four-game homestand to begin the stretch run of the season on Wednesday, February 4 at 6 pm against Mount Saint Mary College to conclude action against Skyline Gold Division opposition.
