Men's Basketball Beats Mount Saint Mary, Extends Win Streak to Four Games

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's basketball team secured its fourth consecutive victory with an 80–74 Skyline Conference win over Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday night at The Hill Center.

Fueled by early chances from Austin Wrynn (Port Washington, N.Y.), the Bears opened the night on a 9-2 run. Their advantage grew to as many as 11 midway through the period but the Knights answered and kept it tight into the closing minutes of the half. However, St. Joseph's produced key finishes late, including a dunk from Jacob Idowu (Wiesbaden, Germany) and Maven Cummings (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scoring in transition to carry a 42–41 advantage into halftime.

The Bears came out of the break with an immediate perimeter strike, as Cummings drilled a three at 19:39 to make it 45–41. Mount Saint Mary responded quickly and briefly moved in front at 17:46 and 17:01, forcing the Bears to play from behind early in the half. The game tightened again down the stretch, and the score was even at 61–61 following a paint finish at 9:06. Trailing 72-70 at the 3:27 mark, SJBK used a 10-2 scoring spurt, with all of their points coming largely from the free throw line to seal the 80–74 result.

Idowu had a double-double of 23 points and 20 rebounds. Cummings logged 16 points and six rebounds while Justin Munson (Middle Village, N.Y.) had 13 points and nine rebounds. Wrynn had nine points and six boards while Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Blaize Corozzo (Howard Beach, N.Y.) each had six points.

The Bears host SUNY Maritime College in the first game of SJBK's Alumni Day Doubleheader on Saturday, February 7 at 1 pm.
