OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's soccer team saw a scoreless first half give way to four goals after the break, falling to SUNY Old Westbury, 3–1, on Tuesday afternoon.
Edwin Sacramento (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made a pair of early saves before the Bears settled into the match and began creating opportunities of their own. SJBK put four shots on target during a four-minute stretch midway through the half and generated another late chance, but neither side could break through before halftime.
The Panthers broke the deadlock just 41 seconds into the second half, but the Bears responded in the 53rd minute when Matthew Cottone (Oakdale, N.Y.) found the back of the net to level the match at 1–1. Sacramento made several stops to preserve the tie before the Panthers regained the lead through Marius Wassend in the 77th minute.
SJBK was unable to find a second equalizer, and Old Westbury added an insurance goal in the 85th minute to close the scoring.
Cottone scored his side's lone goal and led SJBK with four shots, placing two on target. Jared Nereo Flores (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Veton Dudus (Murray Hill, N.Y.)Â recorded three shots apiece, while Alexander Kudrick (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added two. Sacramento finished with nine saves in goal.
The Bears continue Skyline Conference play on Saturday, October 10, traveling to Sarah Lawrence College for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
