Women's Basketball Tops Yeshiva in Final Road Contest

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's basketball team closed out its road swing Sunday afternoon with a 61-50 victory over Yeshiva University at Baruch College.

The Bears set the tone early, jumping out in front with transition scoring and strong defensive pressure. Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas) knocked down an early perimeter look, and Emma Centrella (Varese, Italy) asserted herself inside, helping the Bears build a 17-6 first-quarter advantage.

The Bears continued their attacking rhythm in the second quarter, with Jasmine Chan-Clayton (Melbourne, Australia) and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) hitting from long range while St. Joseph's limited Yeshiva's scoring opportunities. The Bears carried a 34-18 lead into halftime.

In the third, the Bears kept pace offensively behind perimeter conversion and active rebounding, extending its lead to 56-34 after three. While Yeshiva mounted a late rally in the fourth, the Bears responded with composed half-court execution to preserve the road win.

Perez led the Bears with 20 points, knocking in four triples and dished out four assists, while Centrella posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Donovan and Chan-Clayton each scored nine points, and Nikki Grech (Northville, Mich.) contributed eleven rebounds in the win.

The Bears conclude their home campaign with a pair of games this week, beginning on Wednesday, February 18 at 6 pm against SUNY Old Westbury.
