PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) softball team dropped both games of their Sunday doubleheader at Manhattanville University, 0-7 and 1-11.
Game 1
After a scoreless opening inning, the Valiants erupted for five runs in the second. A home run sparked the scoring, followed by a barrage of base hits that gave the hosts the lead. A two-RBI double in the fifth inning sealed Manhattanville's 7–0 victory.
Nicole Shultz (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), Leila Heller (Belle Chasse, La.), and Audrey Scott (Rocklin, Calif.) each recorded a hit. Heller took the loss in the circle, striking out four batters.
Game 2
The Valiants' 11 runs came across the opening three innings. A string of singles put Manhattanville up 4-0 after one before a six-run second, headlined by their second home run of the day, brought them to double figures.Â
Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) who reached on a fielder's choice early in the fourth inning, scored the Bears' lone run of the day later in the frame.
Scott doubled in the fourth, marking the Bears' lone hit of the contest. Alyssa Garcia (Montebello, Calif.) tossed 2.1 innings as she was dealt the loss.
The Bears are back home on Saturday, April 18 against the University of Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 pm.
