BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Former St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) softball student-athlete Audrey Scott '26 was recently named the inaugural recipient of the S. Mary Florence Burns '46, CSJ, Ph.D. English Award.

Named in honor of former St. Joseph's professor, dean, and vice president S. Mary Florence Burns '46, CSJ, Ph.D., the scholarship carries forward Burns' legacy by supporting the academic pursuits of future generations of St. Joseph's students. As the award's inaugural recipient, Scott will continue her academic career at St. Joseph's this fall when she enters the University's Brooklyn Writer's Foundry Low-Residency MFA program.

"It means a lot to win this award because I have tried my best throughout my four years," said Scott. "To see the work pay off and the people who believe in me give this award is very big for me."

"Audrey embodies everything this award stands for," remarked head softball coach Dino Mastropierro. "She helped lay the foundation for our program for future Bears to come. It has been a privilege and an honor to have coached her."

A native of Rocklin, Calif., Scott concluded her softball career this past spring with 104 hits, a .337 batting average, and a .447 slugging percentage across 125 games. An English major, Scott graduated in May as a member of the New York Beta Delta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma and was a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honoree. She also served as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2025-26.
