NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2026 season on Monday night, defeating Pratt 3-0.Â
The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute thanks to a goal from Matthew Cottone (Oakdale, N.Y.) with Jared Nereo Flores (Brooklyn, N.Y.) providing the assist. St. Joseph's would keep the pressure on as senior Joshua Lucano (Elmhurst, N.Y.) added a second goal in the 24th minute, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead at the half.
Cottone scored his second goal of the night thanks to an assist from Lucano in the 55th minute giving the Bears a 3-0 lead over the Cannoneers. The Bears held on to pick up their first win of the 2026 campaign.Â
Cottone picked up his team leading fourth and fifth goals while firing off three shots on goal. Flores recorded four shots, three of which were on goal, to go along with an assist. Lucano and Alexander Kudrick (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) also had three shots each as the Bears outshot Pratt, 17-8. Goalkeepers Edwin Sacramento (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Matthew Galletta (Bohemia, N.Y.) each recorded a save in the shutout.Â
The Bears open Skyline Conference play on Saturday, September 19 vs. SUNY Maritime in Throggs Neck. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
