Men's Volleyball Sweeps Sarah Lawrence in Tri-Match Split

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team (2-14, Skyline 1-5) traveled to the Bronx to challenge a pair of Skyline Conference opponents, Sarah Lawrence and SJC Long Island. St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) won their first scheduled match, sweeping Sarah Lawrence, 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-20), but later fell to conference leaders, SJC Long Island 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-14).

Sophomore Stephen Eddy (Glendale, N.Y. / Christ the King) led the Bears, accumulating a career-high five service aces (vs Sarah Lawrence), slamming eight total kills, 13 digs, and three assists. His performance was followed by Sophomore Tim Driscoll (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Peter's), who totaled 14 kills and three service aces. Junior Sean Salomons (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Peter's) pitched in with 13 kills, three blocks (two solos, one assist), and one service ace.

Senior Alec Willis (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Joseph by the Sea) generated 27 total assists (21 vs Sarah Lawrence), four kills and 11 digs. Fellow Senior Keyshawn Wright (Brooklyn, N.Y. / George Westinghouse) posted a total of three service aces and four digs.

Sarah Lawrence (0-14, Skyline 0-3) was carried by Divij Kapoor and Harris Silcott. Kapoor smashed eight kills and three digs. Silcott had six kills and five digs.

SJC Long Island (18-7, Skyline 7-0) was led by a multitude of performers, with seven players crushing 3 or more kills. Will Flohr had a team-high six kills and five digs.

In the first set of the SJC Brooklyn/Sarah Lawrence matchup, the Bears took a resounding 19-8 lead. Driscoll finished strong, delivering three service aces to seal the win, 25-9.

In the following sets, the Bears and Gryphons dueled it out in a rubber match, with neither team taking full control. A block by St. Rose-Cuffy on the final play of the second set gave the Bears the win (25-20), and a kill by Driscoll to finish the third, propelled the Bears to their second consecutive win of the season (25-20).

The Bears will be back on the road to take on Purchase State on Tuesday, April 3. First serve set for 7:00 p.m.
