Martinez Named Skyline Men’s Volleyball Co-Player of the Year

NEW YORK — Jeremias Martinez (Elmhurst, N.Y./Newtown) of the St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team was named the Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Year and earned First Team honors, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Bears' semifinal match at St. Joseph's (Long Island).

The sophomore right side, coming off his third Player of the Week honor on Monday, becomes the first player in program history to earn the conference's top individual award. Martinez closed the regular season averaging 4.13 kills per set with a .245 hitting percentage, ranking second and fourth in the Skyline, respectively. He also finished third in attacks per set (10.01) and aces per set (0.592), while placing ninth in digs per set (2.17).

The Queens native recorded five double-doubles in 2026, including two performances of 20+ kills and 10+ digs against Sarah Lawrence. He posted a season-high 26 kills against City College and added a season-best six aces against the Beavers, along with five-ace outings versus Yeshiva and Old Westbury.

Martinez totaled 293 kills on the year, just six shy of matching his own program single-season record set last season.

This marks Martinez's second All-Skyline honor, having earned a second-team selection as a rookie.

The Bears face the Golden Eagles on Wednesday night at 7 pm from the Danzi Athletic Center in Patchogue with the winner earning the right to face Purchase or Manhattanville in Saturday's final.
