FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Junior Victoria Mahoney (Allenwood, N.J./Saint John Vianney) fired a complete-game shutout to lift the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team to a key Skyline Conference victory over Farmingdale State College, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon on the road. The third-place Rams rallied in game two downing the Bears, 19-2.

The loss was the first for the Rams to a team outside the top two in the league standings and keeps the Bears playoff hopes alive seeking a spot in their first Skyline Championship, needing to finish in the top six with two games remaining and sitting one game behind sixth place.

Game 1: St. Joseph's 2, Farmingdale State 0

• The Bears struck first with a solo run in the second with Sarah Kampuries (Ozone Park, N.Y./John Adams) leading off with a double and scoring two batters later on a Kelsie Whalen (Florence, N.J./Notre Dame) single.
• Victoria Mahoney controlled the hosts, scattering six hits over the complete-game shutout effort, and didn't allow a Ram to reach third base all game.
• SJC added an insurance run in the seventh loading the bases on singles from Maria Gentile (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall), Daniela Trani (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic), and Stephanie Rancel (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) with a Ram miscue allowing a run to score.

Game 2: Farmingdale State 19, St. Joseph's 2 (5 innings)

• The Rams jumped ahead 1-0 after one before the Bears plated their lone two runs with a pair in the second. A Whalen double scored Kampuries who led off with a walk and Rancel knocked a two-out single that brought home Whalen to move ahead 2-1.
• The hosts responded with four in the home half of the inning and never turned back blowing the game open with nine runs in the third, highlighted by a Julia Walpole grand slam as she finished 3-for-3 to lead Farmingdale.
• The Rams would finish with 18 hits over the five-inning affair, while the Walpole and Nicole Gabay kept the Bears hitless over the final three frames to seal the split.

For the Bears

• Sarah Kampuries finished with a multi-hit effort in game one batting 2-for-3 with a run scored and drew a pair of walks and scored once in game two.
• Victoria Mahoney went the distance in the circle in game one for her fourth win of the season, striking out four and surrendering six hits and three walks in the shutout.
• Daniela Trani also turned in a multi-hit effort in game one, batting 2-for-3.
• Kelsie Whalen hit successfully and drove in a run in both ends of the twinbill, batting 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
• Stephanie Rancel knocked a hit in both games and drove in a run in game two.
