STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Despite tallies from sophomore Kenneth Garcia (Elmhurst, N.Y/Bayside) and junior Daniel Goncalves (Astoria, N.Y./Cathedral Prep), the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team was unable to secure the first win for head coach Adam Brunengo, dropping a 6-2 decision in non-conference play to The College of Staten Island on Monday.

How it Happened

The Dolphins struck first less than 10 minutes on a Bryan Navarro goal. But just three minutes later Kenneth Garcia knotted up the game at 1-all, making the most of a lapse by the CSI defense, stealing a ball just outside the box and dribbling wide past the Dolphin keeper, slotting it into an empty net.

Navarro would strike again in the 19th minute to put the hosts up for good, putting back a rebound after a shot was initially blocked by the Bears defense. Staten Island created some separation with three quick markers in a span of five minutes to lead 6-1 at the break.

After CSI dictated play for the opening 45 outshooting SJC 17-2, a second-half stalemate ensued with both teams finishing with four shots each. Daniel Goncalves would end 35 minutes of scoreless action, burying a ball into the middle of the net. A quick Dolphin response less than 60 seconds later pushed the lead back to five.

For the Bears

• Garcia found the back of the net for the second straight game and now has eight career goals.
• Goncalves scored his sixth career goal on his lone shot, seeing 45 minutes of action.
• Alejandro Oliveros made two saves in a losing effort in goal.
