NEW YORK — St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Galetta (Bohemia, N.Y.) has been named the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. Senior Francisco Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also received honorable mention recognition following the Bears' pair of conference victories.

Galetta totaled 14 saves and recorded a .824 save percentage as the Bears defeated Yeshiva , 3–2, on Wednesday before earning a 4–1 victory over Purchase on Saturday. The sophomore made six saves against the Maccabees, five of which came in the second half, helping St. Joseph's overcome a two-goal deficit. He followed that performance with eight saves against the Panthers, playing all 90 minutes to secure the Bears' second consecutive win.

Garcia also contributed to the Bears' week by converting a penalty kick in the 53rd minute against Yeshiva to begin St. Joseph's second-half comeback. He added another goal in Saturday's Senior Day victory over Purchase, finding the back of the net in the 58th minute to double the Bears' advantage. Garcia has scored four goals this season, including three across his last two appearances.

The Bears (3–7–2, 2–6–0 Skyline) continue conference play with two road matches this week. St. Joseph's travels to Riverdale to face the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, October 20, at 6 p.m., before visiting St. Joseph's (Long Island) on Saturday, October 24, for a noon kickoff.
