NEW YORK — 2022 Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Year Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) found the scoresheet for the first time this season as the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's soccer team opened the 2023 campaign with a 4-1 defeat against John Jay College on Friday afternoon.

How it Happened

The Bloodhounds (0-1) drew first blood with a chip shot by Kevin Luciano in the 14th minute. The Bears (0-1) countered in the 22nd as Lorenzo La Rosa (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) fed Naci the ball in a tight area with Naci beating the John Jay keeper on his left side to level the score at 1-1.

Luciano broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half via the penalty spot, ultimately ending the match with a hat trick thanks to his third goal in the 74th minute. The hosts added a goal between Luciano's two second-half strikes to confirm the 4-1 result.

For the Bears

• Naci's first goal of the season was the 23rd of his SJBK career, 10 goals shy of matching the all-time program record set by Raul Urshela from 2011-14.

• Naci, Jesus Cano (Brooklyn, N.Y./Cristo Rey Brooklyn), and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) all totaled the Bears' five shots on goal.

• In addition to his assist, LaRosa also registered a shot in the match.

• Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Technical) came up with a pair of saves.
