KINGS PARK, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn cross country teams participated at the St. Joseph's (Long Island) Invitational from Sunken Meadow State Park on Saturday afternoon. Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Gabriel Lopez (Forest Hills, N.Y.) were the Bears' top finishers.
Sarji logged a personal-best time of 24:08.1 on the 5k, good for 16th place. Danielle Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed with a 31st-place time of 26:26.6. Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif.) finished 50th in 28:32.1, a season-best for the senior, while Kathleen Idrovo (New York, N.Y.) rounded out the Bears' participation with a time of 32:54.4.
Lopez improved his previous best at the Queensborough Invitational, finishing the men's 8k in 38:40.1. Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador) recorded a time of 38:43.1, with the pair finishing in 62nd and 63rd place, respectively. The trio of Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Nazareth Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Stephan Direny (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished in 70th, 71st, and 72nd place.
The Bears will compete in the Old Westbury Halloween Invitational on Friday, November 1, at 11 am, in preparation for the 2024 Skyline Conference Championships on Sunday, November 3, at Bethpage State Park.
