FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — At Saturday's Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's (Long Island), nine runners from the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn cross country teams achieved personal bests. The women's team finished 12th out of 17 teams.
Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) set a personal record in the 5k with a time of 24:56.6, earning her 57th place. Danielle Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) and Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas/William Howard Taft) followed closely with times of 26:25.0 and 26:36.8, respectively. The quartet of Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), Joell McKeon (Narrowsburg, N.Y./Sullivan West), Elizabeth Yu (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista), and Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) all finished within 30 minutes.
For the men's team, Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) clocked in at 36:50.0, while Tariq Belma (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) finished at 37:00.2, and Miguel Toribio completed the race in 37:13.0, placing 124th, 127th, and 130th, respectively, just 23 seconds apart. Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) also set a personal best in the 8k with a time of 41:15.1.
