BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Sean Salomons '19 has been named the head coach of the women's volleyball team at St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) as announced by Director of Athletics and Recreation Megan Valentine. Salomons, a former All-Skyline Conference honoree, has led the men's volleyball program since their return from the coronavirus pandemic in 2022.
"I am excited to have Sean join our Athletics' team in an increased capacity and fully anticipate that this will enhance the student-athlete experience for both of our volleyball programs" said Valentine. "Student-athletes want access to their coaches because they play such a significant role in their educational and developmental process and, with Sean in this additional capacity, we can move towards this goal."
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with an amazing group of student-athletes" remarked Solomons, adding "I'm excited to continue to grow the program and help take it to new heights!"
In his three-year coaching tenure on the men's side, Salomons racked up 15 wins; 11 of which against conference opposition. During the 2023 season, he presided over three All-Skyline selections; Leonel Bravo (first team libero), Alex Helfant (second team outside hitter), and Frank Tello (second team middle blocker); and the program's second-ever NCAA Statistical Championship behind a Division III-leading 13.19 digs per set.
As a student-athlete, Salomons was a member of the program's first appearance in the Skyline Conference tournament; leading the squad to a third-place regular-season finish in 2019. He concluded the season with Second Team All-Skyline recognition behind a .112 hitting percentage and 163 kills, and 44 total blocks. At the time of his graduation, the middle blocker ranked seventh in program history in kills (239) and seventh in blocks (77).
Aside from his achievements in volleyball, Salomons was a three-year member of the basketball team. Excelling academically, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice with a 4.0 grade-point average. Throughout his four years, he featured regularly on the Skyline Academic Honor Roll and was honored thrice as a member of the Bears Scholar-Athlete Team. Salomons also served as the vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2017-18 before assuming the role of president in 2018-19.
"Sean has a solid rapport with our men's and women's volleyball student-athletes, and he has been making steady progress with recruitment. I look forward to our programs developing further under Sean's watch" concluded Valentine.
Salomons is currently the head coach of the boy's and girl's volleyball teams at The Packer Collegiate Institute. He is also the assistant coach of the institute's basketball teams. Salomons resides on Staten Island.
