GALLOWAY, N.J. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn cross country teams traveled to South Jersey to participate in the Stockton University Osprey Open on Saturday. Danielle Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) and Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) were the Bears' top finishers for the second consecutive meet.
Bourne and Jennifer Sarjii (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) crossed the 6k finish in 31:26 and 32:02, respectively; enough to crack the top 50. Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas/William Howard Taft), and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) rounded out the SJBK top five, all finishing in under 40 minutes.
All five Bears on the men's side finished the 8k course in under an hour, with Helfant clocking in at 38:03. Tariq Belma (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Miguel Toribio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep) finished neck-and-neck for the second meet in a row with Belma crossing the finish at 39:26, 22 seconds ahead of Toribio. Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Noah Gray (Fishers, Ind./Deane Bozeman) followed with Gray improving on last week's finish by two minutes.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, September 21 at the Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's (Long Island) at Bethpage State Park. The women's 5k competition begins at 11 am with the men's 8k following an hour later.
