Box Score NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. – Brooklyn men's volleyball team returned to the win column on Tuesday night, defeating Yeshiva University 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-17). The result marks the first win in Skyline Conference play this season.
How it HappenedÂ
An early 4-3 lead for the Bears soon became 21-9 behind a handful of kills, led by three from Jeremias Martinez (Elmhurst, N.Y.) and aces from Frank Rivera (Astoria, N.Y.) and Gianfranco Guarraci (Elizabeth, N.J.). Yeshiva was unable to respond as St. Joseph's won, 25-12.
The Bears held commanding leads in each of the remaining two sets en route to the sweep. Led by an efficient .600 hitting percentage from Christopher Armstong III (Buffalo, N.Y.) the navy and gray produced 13 kills in the second set as they possessed a lead of 17-6. The Maccabees assembled a small run but proved insufficient as the Bears took the set 25-18.
The Bears saw a 10-point lead, 15-5, trimmed to six in the latter stages of the final stanza, 23-17. Keiran McMullan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) served up a pair of aces while Richard Ortega (Roselle, N.J.) and Xavier Belfon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed with blocks during the 25-17 set.
