McCullough Tasked to Lead Men’s Volleyball Program

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) Director of Athletics and Recreation Dionne Dodson announced Monday the appointment of Michael McCullough as head coach of the men's volleyball program. McCullough, who was named head coach of the women's team ahead of the 2026 season, will now oversee both programs.

"Coach McCullough has done a tremendous job leading our women's volleyball team. The passion and dedication he has for teaching and mentoring our student-athletes and his love for volleyball made him the obvious choice to lead our men's volleyball program," said Dodson. "We are extremely excited for the future of our men's program with Coach McCullough at the helm."

"I am deeply honored to lead the men's volleyball program here at St. Joseph's University Brooklyn. Since the roster is quite young, I am excited to lead the program to success," remarked McCullough. "With the grit and determination that these young men have, I am determined to get the team to Skyline tournaments and finals and hopefully make the NCAA tournament. I look forward to what the future awaits us."

In his first season leading the women's program, McCullough has guided the Bears to a 10-9 overall record and a 6-4 mark in Skyline Conference play, on the verge of securing a postseason berth for the first time since 2018. Among those victories were a five-set triumph over SUNY Maritime and a four-set win against St. Joseph's (Long Island).

Prior to arriving at St. Joseph's, McCullough served as an assistant coach for both volleyball programs at Hunter College, contributing to recruiting, player development and performance analysis. During his tenure, the Hawks' men's program captured CUNYAC regular-season titles in 2022 and 2023 and finished as conference runner-up in each of the following three seasons. Hunter's women's team claimed the 2023 CUNYAC championship and regular-season title before finishing as conference runner-up in 2024 and 2025.

McCullough has also served as vice president and director of volleyball operations for No Volleyball No Life Inc. since September 2023, overseeing operations, athlete programming and staff development. He previously coached at Queensborough Community College in 2018, helping the women's program capture CUNYAC, NJCAA Region XV and District G championships and finish eighth nationally in NJCAA Division III.

A Massachusetts native, McCullough played collegiately as a setter and defensive specialist at Mount Ida College from 2013 to 2016 after beginning his career at Southern Vermont College. He graduated from Mount Ida in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a concentration in forensic science.

The Bears will begin their 2027 men's volleyball regular season in January.
