NEW YORK — Jeremias Martinez (Elmhurst, N.Y./Newtown) of the St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team has been named Skyline Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The sophomore compiled 33 kills, 26 digs, and six service aces across the Bears' two matches, averaging 16.5 kills and 13 digs per contest. In the Bears' Skyline opener at Yeshiva University on Thursday, Martinez recorded 23 kills, 15 digs, and five aces. He followed with his third double-double of the season on Saturday against Purchase College, tallying 10 kills and 11 digs. He also added three blocks as the Bears finished the week 1-1.
The honor marks Martinez's third career weekly award from the Skyline Conference and his first since earning back-to-back Rookie of the Week recognition late last season.
Rookie Trey DeMeo (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) received honorable mention after averaging 12 kills and 7.5 digs per match. He posted a season-high 16 kills against the Panthers, along with three digs and a solo block.
The Bears open a three-match road swing Tuesday, March 3 at St. Joseph's University, Long Island, followed by matches at SUNY Old Westbury on Thursday, March 5 and Manhattanville University on Saturday, March 7.
