Martinez Repeats as Skyline Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

NEW YORK — For the second consecutive week, Jeremias Martinez (Elmhurst, N.Y./Newtown) of the St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team has been named Skyline Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Martinez totaled 41 kills while hitting .303, adding 18 digs and four service aces as the Bears went 2–1 last week. The sophomore averaged 4.56 kills per set across the team's nine sets, highlighted by a 23-kill performance in a road win at Old Westbury. He also recorded five digs and three aces in the victory. In matches at St. Joseph's (Long Island) and Manhattanville, Martinez combined for 18 kills and 13 digs.

Martinez currently ranks second in the Skyline Conference with 154 total kills and third with 4.05 kills per set. He also sits third in the conference with 23 service aces and sixth in hitting percentage (.211).

With the honor, Martinez joins himself last season along with Alex Helfant '25 and Leonel Bravo '24 (2024) as the only Bears to earn multiple Skyline weekly awards in a single season. He is also the first player in program history to earn back-to-back Skyline Player of the Week honors.

St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), now 6–5 overall and 3–2 in conference play, returns home this week to host Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m., before welcoming Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
