BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) has announced the appointment of Michael McCullough as head coach of the Bears' women's volleyball program ahead of the 2026 season. McCullough arrives at St. Joseph's with nine years of coaching experience and most recently served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's volleyball programs at Hunter College, a position he has held since January 2022.

Throughout the interview process, his knowledge of the game, genuine passion for volleyball, and clear vision for the future of our program consistently stood out," stated Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Jill Conroy. She added, "his commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court and fostering a culture of excellence made it clear that he is the right person to lead our program. We are excited to see the impact he will have on our team and community."

"With such a young roster, I'm excited to lead our program into the new season with energy, purpose, and a commitment to growth both on and off the court. With the Hawks, McCullough assisted with recruiting, player development, and performance analysis while helping guide both programs to success within the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC). During his tenure, the women's program captured the 2023 CUNYAC championship and regular-season title before finishing as conference runner-up in 2024 and 2025. The men's program earned CUNYAC regular-season titles in 2022 and 2023 and finished as conference runner-up in each of the following three seasons.
McCullough has also served as vice president and director of volleyball operations for No Volleyball No Life Inc. since September 2023, overseeing court operations, developing programming for athletes of various age groups, and training coaches and staff.
Before Hunter, McCullough served as an assistant women's volleyball coach at Queensborough Community College in 2018, helping the Tigers capture CUNYAC, NJCAA Region XV and District G championships and finish eighth nationally in NJCAA Division III.
McCullough also brings athletic administration experience, having worked on the management staff of NY Horizon Club and as a college business assistant at Hunter.
A Massachusetts native, McCullough was a collegiate setter and defensive specialist, playing at Mount Ida College from 2013 to 2016 after beginning his career at Southern Vermont College. He earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a concentration in forensic science from Mount Ida in 2016.
The Bears open the season at The Hill Center on Monday, September 1 at 5 pm, hosting Rutgers University-Newark.
