Kiley Crosses 1,000-Point Milestone as Women's Basketball Concludes Regular Season at Mount Saint Mary

Box Score

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Senior Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored 10 points on Saturday afternoon to become the latest 1,000-point scorer in St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's basketball program history. She also pulled nine rebounds and blocked a pair of shots in the Bears' 63-99 defeat to Mount Saint Mary College.

How it Happened

The Bears (11-12, 8-10) held a brief 3-2 lead before the Knights' (18-5, 15-3) 11-0 run gave them a 10-point advantage. Alexis Breen's (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) triple at the 3:34 mark brought St. Joseph's to within four but the hosts pulled away with a 13-point lead, 31-18, going into the second period.

Kiley's moment came with 2:39 remaining in the second stanza. The center missed an initial layup but banked the ensuing attempt to reach 1,000 career points. Her milestone bucket brought the Bears to 41-26 before MSMC held a 49-28 margin at the half.

Breen and Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) combined for 23 points in the second half in an attempt to keep pace with the Knights but Mount Saint Mary, who led by as many as 38, concluded their regular season with the 99-63 result and the three-seed entering the Skyline Conference Tournament. The Bears enter the postseason in the five-seed.

For the Bears

  • Kiley becomes the first Bear to reach 1,000 points since program record-scorer and current assistant coach Kelly O'Donnell '22 did so three games into the 2019-20 season.

  • Kiley currently sits on 1,003 points entering Tuesday's playoff contest.

  • Breen paced the Bears' offense with 20 points and a 50-percent shooting percentage from three-point range. She added three assists, a pair of rebounds, and as many steals to her stat line.

  • Kennedy rounds out the three Bears in double-figure scoring behind a 13-point effort. The sophomore was a rebound short of a double-double.

  • Following her 17-rebound game on Tuesday, Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) led the side with 10 caroms. She also finished with seven points.

  • Aaniya Telford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) had eight points and seven rebounds while Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had six boards, three assists, and as many steals.
