Perez Named to All-Skyline Conference Second Team

NEW YORK — Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas/William Howard Taft) of the St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) women's basketball team was named to the All-Skyline Conference Second Team on Tuesday afternoon, the league office announced ahead of the conference tournament.

Perez finished the season second in scoring, averaging 18.0 points per game, trailing only Merchant Marine's Carolae Barton, the conference's Player of the Year. She led the Skyline in total three-pointers (84) and three-pointers per game (3.36), while ranking seventh in assists (80).

The junior guard scored in double figures in all 25 games this season. Her 36-point performance in a road win over Mount Saint Vincent marked a career high and the most points scored by any player in the conference this season. She topped 20 points in 11 games, including 29 in the season opener against Medgar Evers, 26 versus Yeshiva, and 21 — along with 10 rebounds — against Farmingdale State for her lone double-double of the campaign.

The honor is the first postseason award of Perez's career and the program's first since Destiny Hurt '24 earned second-team recognition in 2023–24.

The Bears closed the year with an 11–14 record, marking their highest win total since 2022–23 and the most victories in a single season under head coach Joe Giacchi.
