STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) cross country team took part in the fifth annual Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by St. Joseph's (Long Island) from the campus of Stony Brook University.
Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led SJBK in the women's 5k, clocking a time of 24:35. Mercedes Perez (San Antonio, Texas) secured a top-50 finish with a personal-best 25:51, while newcomer Jizelle Velazquez (New York, N.Y.) crossed in 27:11. Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) and Meredith Vento (Wauwatosa, Wis.) rounded out the Bears' contingent to finish under the 30-minute mark.
The men's 8k saw Ganilo Quintos (Boston, Mass.) place 39th thanks to a 32:24 finish. Gabriel Lopez (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Henry Sues (Alexandria, La.) finished inside 40 minutes. Rounding out the top-five Bear finishers were Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Guillermo Noriega (Glendale, N.Y.) with times of 44:51 and 47:03, respectively.
Both teams finished their respective meets in 11th place.
