BRONX, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) cross country teams competed at the Queensborough Community College Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. Both the women's and men's squads placed 13th in their respective races, finishing among 20 participating teams.
Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Bears for the fourth straight meet, placing 40th in 26:10.54 and spearheading a group of five finishers under the 30-minute mark. Casey Hobbs (Surprise, Ariz.) followed in her season debut with a time of 27:45.61, while Jizelle Velazquez (New York, N.Y.) claimed 71st in 28:38.76. Vivian Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) and Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y.) rounded out the Bears' top five, crossing in 29:35.92 and 29:53.01, respectively, as all five finished within the top 100.
Their 13th-place showing saw them top Skyline Conference counterparts St. Joseph's Long Island, Farmingdale State, and Mount Saint Vincent.
Ganilo Quintos (Boston, Mass.) recorded his third straight 40th-place finish—after meets at St. Joseph's Long Island and Bard—clocking in at 34:52.42. Guillermo Victorio (Corona, N.Y.) followed four minutes later in 77th with a time of 38:30.14, while Gabriel Lopez (Forest Hills, N.Y.) placed 89th in 39:40.13. Sophomore Jody Louro (Austin, Texas) posted a 93rd-place finish in his debut meet with a time of 40:58.80. Rookie Guillermo Noriega (Glendale, N.Y.) crossed the finish line at 45:02.39 to complete the top five SJBK finishers.
