Schwartz Homers Twice, Rapp Scores 100th Run As Baseball Silences Lightning, 15-10

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Sophomore Adam Schwartz (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) homered in his first two at bats to erase an early deficit and tie the game at 5-5 as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team scored 15 runs for the second straight game to capture a 15-10 victory on Monday afternoon and remain undefeated at American Legion Field.

Senior Francis Rapp (Baldwin, N.Y./Oceanside) scored twice and became the seventh Bear to score 100 runs. Sophomore Luke Rehn (Sunman, Ind./Milan) drove in three runs and Connor Pasetti (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) picked up his first save of the season to extend his career lead in the category.

  • The Lightning opened the scoring in the fourth knocking four hits in the frame to score four runs. Steve Cuello and Matthew Prevosti both knocked two-out, RBI singles to build the early 4-0 lead.
  • But the Bears cut the deficit in half in the home half of the inning, Anthony Camerada delivering a two-out single and Adam Schwartz lifting a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 4-2.
  • Lehman scored a solo run in the third to move ahead 5-2 before the Bears took the lead for good in the fourth. With Francis Rapp on first after drawing a walk, and John Condon on second knocking a single, Schwartz stepped to the plate with two outs and drove the first pitch over dead center to tie the game at 5-all and Rapp crossing home plate for the 100th time.
  • The Bears punished the Lightning for a miscue that extended the fourth inning and allowed three more runs to score—Luke Rehn's two-run triple giving the Bears a 8-5 lead.
  • St. Joseph's posted runs in their next three at bats and led 10-5 after five, and 15-8 after seven.
