Farmingdale State's Offensive Outburst Too Much for Baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team (1-12, 0-8 Skyline) dropped a pair of conference contests to Farmingdale State College (8-2, on Saturday afternoon from the SJC Outdoor Field Complex, 11-1 and 12-2.

Game 1 – Farmingdale State 11, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 1

The Rams jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the opening frame courtesy of RBI from Bobby Pollock and Jordan Lambert.

The Bears scored their lone run of the game in the second as Chris Leary scored, taking advantage of a rundown between second and first. The run was the first allowed all season by junior pitcher Stephen Clancy.

Aided by a quartet of doubles by Lambert, Farmingdale State broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and five in the seventh, taking the front end of the doubleheader, 11-1.

Lucas Collet registered a 3-for-3 game, singling in each of his at-bats while Thomas Airey also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a second-inning double.

Matt McHugh (1-4) went 3.1 innings and struck out four, matching a season-high, as he was credited with the loss. Matthew Rienzi played his 41st career game on the hill, tossing 0.2 innings of middle relief; equalizing Mitch Brigando's '17 record for most pitching appearances as a Bear.

Game 2 – Farmingdale State 12, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 2

The Rams got a leadoff single off the bat of Aidan Hutchins to begin the game before he was caught stealing. A couple of Rams reached base before starter Andrew Monda escaped the first-inning jam.

William DeLuca led off the second stanza with a single to center before stealing second base to get into scoring position. He later scored on Airey's two-out triple to put the Bears on the board, 1-0. Anthony Hernandez hit a three-bagger of his own in the third.

SJC extended their lead to 2-0 after Hernandez's sac fly to right in the home half of the fifth plated TJ Moussette, whose leadoff double led off the frame.

Monda maintained his shutout through six innings of work, thanks to a pair of web gems from Hernandez in centerfield and Collet at short to keep the two-run edge intact. Monda (0-3) would be pulled after 6.1, conceding three runs and posting a pair of K's.

A couple of Farmingdale one-out RBI singles in the seventh saw the Bears' lead evaporate. The Rams would not look back as they eventually put up eight runs in the frame and four more in the ninth to seal their sweep of the Bears, 12-2.
