Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team (2-7) traveled to the Garden State on Friday afternoon, where they dropped a 20-5 result to New Jersey City University (4-5) from the Gerrity Athletic Complex.
How it Happened
For the second consecutive game, an Anthony Hernandez (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) base hit began the proceedings. After stealing second to advance into scoring position, the sophomore scored on a Kevin Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./AECI) single to left. However, following an inning-opening triple, the Gothic Knights quickly wiped away their deficit with an RBI single; adding five more runs to end the first inning with a 6-1 lead and tacking a seventh run in the following stanza.
The Bears took advantage of an NJCU wild pitch in the third before the hosts platted three more in their half of the inning to increase their advantage to 10-2.
Scoring briefly stalled over the next two frames with Thomas Gamba-Ellis (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) and Zach Schnabel (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) tossing scoreless innings each combining to leave just one runner on base.
SJC rattled off four-straight singles to begin the sixth, seeing their third and fourth runs of the contest cross the plate on base knocks from Lucas Collet (Toulouse, France/Lyc'ee Bellevue) and Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale). Collet scored on an NJCU fielding error, trimming the host's advantage in half.
The Gothic Knights' lead grew to double figures thanks to a five-spot in the bottom of the sixth, 15-5. New Jersey City scored five more runs in the eighth to confirm their 15-run win.

Hernandez finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base, his team-leading seventh of the season.

Reyes and Louis Lombardi (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) each went 2-for-3 and scored a run with Reyes notching an RBI.

Herandez and Lombardi went for extra bases, hitting doubles each.

Collet and Gardener each logged a hit and RBI on the afternoon. Collet also scored a run.

Gamba-Ellis struck out a pair and allowed just one run in two innings of work while Ryan Wnorowski (Maspeth, N.Y./ St. John's Prep) struck out a batter and allowed just one hit in two innings of middle-relief.

Andrew Monda (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) started on the bump before being pulled after the first. The sophomore was credited with the loss.
