Box Score VALHALLA, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team made a late-inning comeback that ultimately fell short, suffering a 6-4 defeat to Baruch College on Thursday afternoon in Westchester.
How it Happened
The Bearcats opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. Rookie Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep) was responsible for the two SJBK runs to reduce the deficit to one in the third; singling in Sean Schneeberg (Columbia, Tenn/Del Oro) before stealing third base and scoring on a Baruch fielding error.
However, the hosts responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-2. A sacrifice fly from Mike Medina Jr. (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) in the eighth trimmed the Bearcats' lead in half, 6-3, before Chris Leary's (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) two-out RBI double plated the Bears' fourth run. A groundout concluded the contest in Baruch's favor, 6-4.
