Box Score 2 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team dropped two games to Purchase College on Saturday afternoon, 3-17 and 5-12.
How it Happened (Game 1)
Purchase's Brandon Gonzalez belted a grand slam in the third, followed by Liam Daly's solo shot, to give the visitors a 5-0 advantage. A trio of singles from Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), Anthony Faggiano (Hicksville, N.Y./Bethpage), and Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) brought the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom half of the frame.
The Panthers added more separation with a four-run fourth, breaking the game open with eight runs over the next two innings, to seal game one, 17-3.
How it Happened (Game 2)
The Panthers scored a pair of runs in the top of the first before Sean Schneeberg (Sacramento, Calif./Del Oro) sent a run in to end the stanza in a slim 2-1 hole.
Scoring hit a standstill until Purchase plated a pair in the fifth, 4-1. The Bears came up big in the bottom of the sixth. Four runs scored for the navy and gray – each coming on RBI from Alex Goldberg (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach), Joe Provvisiero (Ozone Park, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), Vincent Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp), and Brian Sanchez (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H Calhoun) – to hold the lead for the first time on the day, 5-4.
Daly's two-run homer in the seventh saw the Panthers reclaim the lead, holding on to the advantage throughout the remainder of the contest. The visitors went yard in each of the last three innings, resulting in the 12-5 scoreline.
For the Bears (Game 1)

Sanchez batted 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Camerada also doubled, finishing 1-for-3 and a run.

Arcati and Faggiano also went 1-for-3, Gardener finished 1-for-2.

Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Township) struck out four in the losing effort on the bump.
For the Bears (Game 2)

Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a run scored and RBI.

Provvisiero and Camerada each batted 2-for-4 with an RBI, the former scored a run.

Dylan Cantwell (Island Park, N.Y./Long Beach) was handed the defeat. The rookie, and Sanchez, each struck out three bats.
