Baseball Comes Out on Top in High-Scoring Clover Stadium Clash Against Lehman

Box Score POMONA, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn) baseball team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Lehman College, 17–11, at Clover Stadium, home of the New York Boulders of the Frontier League.

After the Lightning opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning, the Bears responded with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Ronan Garrett (South Berwick, Maine). St. Joseph's extended its lead to 7–1 by plating two runs in each of the next two innings.

Lehman chipped away in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7–5, but the Bears quickly created separation again. Two-RBI hits from Christopher Stegmuller (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pushed the advantage to 12–5.

The Lightning continued to apply pressure over the next three innings, trimming the lead to 12–9, but were unable to get any closer. However, SJBK answered with a four-run seventh inning to regain control. Lehman added two runs in the eighth, but the Bears responded with an insurance run in the bottom half.

Mike Dedella (Pemberton, N.J.) secured the final three outs with little trouble, sealing the Bears' 17–11 victory.

Eight Bears recorded hits with George Demacopolous (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Daniel Banach (Valley Stream, N.Y.) each batting 3-for-5. Seven Bears racked up two RBI to their statlines, headlined by four from Stegmuller. The trio of Garrett, Vincent Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Daniel Popovitch (Brick, N.J.) accounted for three runs scored.

Rookie Camden Wallace (Riverhead, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate win in his first official start on the mound, tossing four innings with a pair of strikeouts.

The Bears return to Clover Stadium for the second and final time on Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30 pm against the City College of New York.
